Ben E. Keith, Company is a distributor of foodservice products and premium alcoholic beverages. Their independent Food Division supplies a full line of produce, frozen foods, meats, dry groceries, refrigerated foods, paper goods, equipment and supplies to restaurants, hospitals, schools, nursing homes and other institutional businesses. The foodservice division serves eleven states and the beverage division services 61 Texas counties with Anheuser Busch products and employs a dedicated team of over 4,000 people.
When the Ben E. Keith, Company built a new warehouse facility in Houston, Texas, dependable physical security solutions were at the top of mind for Vice President, Robbie Fish.
“The security solution we were using at the other facility was inadequate, and the products were obsolete and outdated,” said Fish. “False alarms were constantly going off and keeping me up at all hours of the night. I was tired of the slow response time and lack of customer service from the larger publicly-owned company. I liked that Knight was a privately-owned company where you are more than an account number and actual people working together to find solutions with a real customer service mindset.”
The Knight Solution
Knight Security Systems designed, furnished, installed and configured 87 Sony Network cameras with video management and 54 HID access control multi-technology card readers with a total system capacity of up to 256 total card readers throughout the new facility. Knight also furnished and installed access controlled vehicle gates and pedestrian turnstiles with an ADA pedestrian gate adjacent to each access controlled turnstile.
The project also included a DMP Network Alarm Intrusion System which provides ground level interior motion detection coverage for designated areas and door position alarm contacts for all the perimeter entry/exit doors. A Genetec Unified Security Platform operates as the control center of the security solution that controls all of the data inputs and outputs for both the video surveillance cameras and door access control.
A large component in the success of the project was due to the close working relationship in the design phase where together, Knight and Ben E. Keith spent a considerable amount of time discussing items like camera coverage for target risk areas, access control flow and alarm monitoring processes to optimize the performance of their solutions. Knight also worked closely with their IT department to design and deliver a stand-alone, secure IT infrastructure to connect all of the security components for optimal performance and build their security systems network.
Ben E. Keith, Co. couldn’t be happier with the security solutions that Knight continues to provide. One of the key factors of winning the project from the onset was the dedication and stellar customer service that Knight Security Systems continues to provide.
“I am not an expert in the security and access control business. Larry Broyles [Knight Project Manager] worked diligently and patiently with the construction team through a complex coordination schedule,” said Fish. “Even after the project was over, Larry continued to check-in and follow-up with us and make sure we were happy with our security solutions. Larry is a jewel and a great project manager. I know we will continue to have a strong partnership with Knight for a very long time.”
