Hailing from Suffolk, Virginia, Patrick Stevenson has been working in the design department at Knight Security Systems for almost 5 years. Here's a closer look at Patrick's experience at our Austin office, how he came to Knight and what he likes to do in his spare time!
Do you have any certifications or degrees?
I am certified in Genetec’s Synergis, Omnicast, and System Design, Milestone’s MCIT and MCDE, S2 Security, Feenics Keep, Brivo, OpenEye, DMP, and received an AutoCad certification a couple of years ago. I don’t currently have any degrees, but who knows what the future holds!
How long have you worked at Knight Security Systems and why have you chosen to work here?
I’ve been with Knight Security Systems for about four and a half years now. I was initially hired as a Service Technician but there was an opening in the Design department, and I applied for it. Although I didn’t have much experience in system design, the team here in Austin believed in me, moved me up into the new role, and I’ve been in the Design department now for nearly four years.
I chose to work at Knight Security because I wanted to be somewhere where I could learn and grow professionally. I found that here and have stayed because of the opportunities I’ve been given and the culture and camaraderie we have here at KSS.
What has been your favorite memory/achievement while working at Knight Security Systems?
One of my favorite memories is the first company-wide picnic I attended with Knight Security. It was at a wake board park and I had been with Knight for less than two weeks, so I was unfamiliar with pretty much everyone. The park had a giant waterslide with a ramp on the end, about 50ft tall, which I wanted to check out and the other Knight employees weren’t hitting it yet. I saw Knight’s President Phil Lake on the way over to it, we both wanted to hit the slide, went and did it before the rest of the folks there, and we got to talk a little smack to everyone else who hadn’t yet hit it.
My favorite achievement would have to be a recent one. We were awarded the San Antonio State Hospital’s new hospital project which is the largest project I’ve ever put together. I had to work with the consultant, general contractor, and specific manufacturer representatives a lot to get our products spec’d into it and we came out on top.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I really enjoy working in the Design department because it allows me to use the skills I learned in the field and apply them to our system designs. In addition, I like that the Design department interacts with every department within Knight Security and the opportunity to build relationships with our manufacturer representatives. It’s very fulfilling to design a system, see it sold, installed, and it all works as planned.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
When I’m not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife, Mia, and that usually means I’m getting smoked in Mario Kart. Aside from that I enjoy cooking, finding new shows to watch, trying new restaurants and hanging with my dogs and cats.
What are some of your hobbies?
A few hobbies would include hitting the back roads on my motorcycle, camping, riding my BMX bike, finding new swimming spots, playing softball, and working on my old Volvo wagon. When it comes down to it, I’m happy doing pretty much anything outside.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
“I speak to everyone in the same way, whether he is the garbage man or the president of the university.” - Albert Einstein
What team are you rooting for this NFL season?
To be honest, I don’t follow any current teams. I grew up in a Cowboys household though so if I were to choose one it would for sure be the 1992 Cowboys.
