April 2022 Employee Spotlight: Eric Reyna

Serving with honor & integrity at Knight since 2019

This month's employee spotlight is on Field Technical Director Eric Reyna! Originally from Panama City, Panama, Eric has been working with the South Region Installation team at Knight for 3 years. In this article, we learn more about what keeps Eric busy outside of work, what his hobbies are, and what he likes best about working at Knight!

How long have you worked at Knight Security Systems and why have you chosen to work here?

I have worked at Knight Security for 3 years and I chose to work here because they [Knight] believe in excelling everyone’s potential. The more we know the better Knight is, and everyone gets a chance to prove their worth and build on their talent(s). Knight also does a good job of recognizing your accomplishments through actions and not just words.

What has been your favorite memory/achievement while working at Knight Security Systems?

My favorite memory/achievement while working at Knight Security was being given the opportunity to run larger-scale projects while polishing my programming. My first big project was Credit Human's twelve-story building. I remember looking back at that project as a great accomplishment because I took it upon myself to run this project with as little management, involvement, and supervision as possible.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

What I enjoy most about my role is that I get to see jobs from a different perspective. Being in the field taught me what to look for in certain situations. And now I get to apply these skills to minimize issues early on before it trickles down to the techs in the field so that they can concentrate on a smoother installation.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my family; whether that’s going out salsa dancing with my wife on weekends, watching movies together, playing video games with my kids, spending time with my son - who has developed a talent for drawing, encouraging them in their own hobbies (my daughter has taken interest in my line of work), or just going out to the park.

What are some of your hobbies?

Some of my hobbies include playing Latin percussion instruments, congas, and timbales, working out, working on computer hardware, and anything electronic.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

The best piece of advice I’ve ever received is from my Grandma: “No dejes para mañana lo que puedes hacer hoy”. It means don’t put off things until tomorrow that you can accomplish today. I'm not sure how the saying translates in English, but that advice has always resonated with me when making decisions.

What is your favorite part about spring?

My favorite thing about Spring is that there’s warmer weather ahead. I dislike the cold weather; I grew up near the equator where it felt like it was always Spring!

Here's what team members have to say about Eric:

"Eric is inquisitive and smart; anything he doesn't know about a particular platform he will learn in a short time. He is always willing to help if he can or will steer you in the right direction."                                                                                                                                                                                                              - Sam M.

"Eric is knowledgable, dependable, and always ready to help in any way he can. His motto is 'We can do that.' He is upbeat, works well with others, and always has a smile on his face. He is an asset to the team and I'm glad I get to work with him!"
                                                                                 - Bruce Venable

"Eric has such a positive impact on our team. Our customers love his determination to complete projects and our team appreciates it. Austin & San Antonio are honored to have met such a great person and leader. Keep up the great work out there!"                                                                                                                                            - Tony Acevedo
